Arun Ratilal Mehta

Arun Ratilal Mehta, 71, a resident of Mobile, Alabama for over 30 years passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019 in Mumbai, India. He was born to Ratilal Premchand Mehta and Manjula Ratilal Mehta on November 26, 1947 in Morbi, India. Arun graduated from the prestigious Podar High School in Santa Cruz, Mumbai and the Jai Hind College in Mumbai before graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Sardar (formerly Vallabhbhai) Patel College of Engineering in 1972. He then spent three years working with his father for the Shipping Corporation of India before moving to the United States in 1975 to pursue and achieve earning his degree of Master of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from M.I.T. in 1977.
Arun’s immigration to the United States and his life thereafter was the definition of the American dream. He was the first person in his family to graduate from a university. He placed a vast importance on higher education. He worked for General Dynamics in California, then moved on to a career at Huntington Ingalls Industries (Ingalls Shipbuilding) until his retirement.
Above all of Arun’s accomplishments, he was the most proud of his family. He worked tirelessly to make a life in America for his entire family. He instilled a strong drive for success in his daughters. Arun was well know for his charismatic personality, passionate zeal for any task he took on and above all his abundantly generous heart. He loved to travel with his family. Arun never let life or his health stop him from doing the things he loved. His legacy no doubt will continue in the many lives he impacted. He is greatly loved, cherished and will never be forgotten.
Arun was preceded in death by his father, Ratilal Premchand Mehta. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Shobhna Arun Mehta; mother, Manjula Ratilal Mehta; two daughters, Rima Arun Mehta (Muzammil Qaisar) and Alpa Arun Mehta (fiancé, Ankur Patel); two grandsons, Zane and Zacharia Qaisar; brother, Vipul Mehta (Lina); sisters, Kumudini Batavia (Mahesh), Pragna Modi (Mukesh), and Darshna Parekh (Pratul); as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, AL, with a religious service immediately following.
