A celebration of the life for Barbara Lee Lund, will be held 11:00am, Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, AL. Visitation will be one hour before the chapel service. Barbara Lund, nee Hubbard, beloved wife and sister, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in Gulf Breeze, FL.
Born in Mobile, AL, on September 5, 1942, to Henry Newton and Alma Murphree Hubbard, she was the youngest of three daughters. She attended Leinkauff Elementary School, in Mobile and graduated from Murphy High School Class of 1960. She attended Birmingham-Southern College where she studied Business Administration. Following her education, Barbara worked in banking in the Mobile area.
Barbara met her husband, Bruce Reid Lund, when she was introduced by her brother-in-law, Chares B. Green whom Bruce worked with at International Paper. They were married in 1963, and throughout her career, lived in Mobile, AL, Spring Hill, LA, and Daphne, AL.
During her life, Barbara served on several community organizations in both Mobile and Spring Hill. She will be most remembered for her work as President of the Women’s Guild of the Benevolent Home, now the Murray House, a senior living community in Mobile, AL, offering assisted living. Barbara was passionate in her work for the Benevolent Home excelling at making residents feel safe, well cared for, and satisfied by the services provided to them. In addition to her community service, Barbara and her husband loved aviation where they were both private pilots. Among their many flights, was to attend the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in convention held annually in Oshkosh WI. Additionally, Barbara and Bruce loved to travel, especially to Bruce’s family home in Montana.
Barbara and her husband were happily married for 55 years, and attended the Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Charles B. Green, Spanish Fort, AL, nieces Brenda G. Killian, Fairhope, AL, Cynthia G. Cunningham, Spanish Fort, AL, and Margie G. Robinson, Mobile, AL, as well as numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews, and her many friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America, the Alzheimer’s Association, and to your local animal rescue, as Barbara’s “furry babies” brought such joy to her.
