Barbara Gayle Reid

Barbara Gayle Holleye Reid -- a 58 year-old native of Mobile and resident of Theodore, AL and Meridian, MS passed away Friday, January 28, 2011. Mrs. Reid was a 1971 graduate of Vigor High School and earned a B.A. from the University of South Alabama in 1975. She later attended Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, AL, earning her J.D. in 1980. She initially practiced law in Meridian and later moved her practice to Bayou La Batre, AL. Mrs. Reid was very active in environ-mental and cultural preservation, establishing the Portersville Revival Group in Coden, AL as part of her preservation efforts. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Comer Holley and Christine Kilgore Holley. Mrs. Reid is survived by her husband, Kenneth J. Reid, M.D.; daughters, Holley Reid and Tra Nguyen; sister, Sybile Plovanich; niece, Trish Plovanich; nephew, John Plovanich; as well as cousins and many friends. Private graveside services were held in Pine Crest Cemetery on Tuesday, February 1, 2011.
