Benjamin Edgar Giddens –born in Jones Mill (Frisco City), AL on June 15, 1919, to Benjamin Franklin Giddens and Jamesina Irene Davis Giddens, and resident of Mobile passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the age of 92. Mr. Giddens served in the United States Navy during World War II, and worked at Brookley Air Force Base before transferring with the government to Clearwater, FL. After retiring from civil service, he returned to Mobile and worked for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Mr. Giddens was a member of the Church of Christ and served as an elder in Mobile as well as Clearwater. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Hudgens Giddens; sons, David Francis Giddens and Mark Ivan Giddens; and sister, Alice Giddens Nall. Mr. Giddens is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Weathers Giddens; children: Benjamin Lawrence Giddens (Linda), James Brents Giddens (Sandra), Timothy Edgar Giddens (Barbara), Daniel Phillip Giddens (Trina), Gary Alan Giddens (Lisa), and Mary Giddens Hughes (Mark); grandchildren: Alisha Cox (Michael), Mathew Giddens, Jared Giddens (Lauren), Jennifer Giddens, Travis Hughes, Brandon Hughes, Brian Giddens, Nicole Giddens, and Daniela Giddens; great-grandchildren, Madison Cox and Sydney Cox; many other relatives and friends. The family would like to express its deep appreciation to Mobile Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Odyssey Hospice Care for the wonderful care they gave Mr. Giddens. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, July 15, 2011, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Giddens’ name can be made to Gulf Coast Bible Camp, 312-T Schillinger Rd. S., #189, Mobile, AL 36608.
