
Bernard Joseph Heggeman, III, a native and life-long Mobilian, passed away on May 30, 2014 He was a respected and nationally known realtor who was President of Heggeman Realty Co., Inc. Son of the founder, he had been with the company for almost 35 years. Bernie was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many. His other love was the outdoors, and he was a true conservationist. He excelled in hunting and was an enthusiastic inshore fisherman. He was pre-deceased by his father, Bernard Joseph Heggeman, Jr. and is survived by his wife, Sharon Lary Heggeman, his daughters, Annie and Sally, his step-son, Ian Leatherbury, his mother, Anne Minto Heggeman, and his brothers and sisters: Gale H. Roberts (Ben Tom), Scott Heggeman (Carole), Helyn H. Graham (Ruffin), all of Mobile; Danz Heggeman of Washington, D.C.: Alyce H. Head of Birmingham; Mary Lynn H. Weaver (Robert) of Orlando, FL and Laura H. Brooks (Chip) of New Orleans, LA. A product of the elementary parochial school system, he was a graduate of University Military School. He then attended and graduated from Auburn University, where he received his B. S. in finance and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After joining Heggeman Realty Company as an agent, he became President in 1997. His professional affiliations included memberships in the Mobile County Board of Realtors, the Alabama Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, The Mobile Commercial Real Estate Exchange and the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), where he served in various leadership positions. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of St. Ignatius and belonged to the Men of St. Joseph and Outback Ministries as well as other Christian organizations. He belonged to numerous hunting, fishing and social clubs. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 1, 2014, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Pine Crest Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 2nd at 10 A.M. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.
