

Bertran N. Driskell - was born on a farm in Wilmer, Alabama in 1915. He passed away at his home on February 12, 2011. He was married to Bess York in 1942. He earned college degrees from Mississippi State University (BS; MS) and Penn State University (PhD) in Agricultural Chemistry and Biochemistry. During World War II, he served four years in the Army Air Corps in the U.S., England, France, and Germany. Employment included teaching/research positions with LSU, University of Kentucky, McMillan Harrison Company, and Cornerstone Christian Academy. He wrote numerous scientific and Biblical research papers, articles, poems, hymns, and The Future: The End and Beyond (Revelation Made Simple). As an ordained minister and missionary, Dr. Driskell pastored Baptist churches in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. He served as general editor of Sunday school literature for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iva and DeWitt Driskell; sisters, Unavay (RD Byrd) and Betty (Stuart Vickery); and brother, Blake. In addition to his wife, Bess, he is survived by brothers, Ralph (Lois), Murray (Shirley), Linwood (Eulice), Allen (Carolyn), Everette (Bonita), and Basil; and sisters, Lois (Hannon Pierce), Agnes (Robert Golf), Julette (Al Smith); sons, Boyce (Susan) and J. Dale (Paula); daughter, Helen (Marc Chetta); and daughter-in-spirit, Jennette (Ronald Poiroux) . He was also blessed with 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Papa Bert will be greatly missed by the many whose lives have been enriched by his gentle Christian spirit. Funeral services will be held from Palestine Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. Visitation will be Friday, February 18, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Interment will be in Palestine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palestine Church Sunday School Fund, Palestine Rd., Wilmer, AL 36587, would be appreciated.
