Ms. Betty Sue Gaston, 85, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Mobile, AL. Betty Sue held degrees from Baptist Bible Institute in Graceville, Fl., Mobile College, University of South Alabama, and University of Alabama. She spent most of her life in education, teaching 3rd grade and special education, then finishing up her career as a school psychometrist with both the Mobile and Washington County Public School Systems. She also served as the President of Alabama Association of School Psychologists from 2005 – 2007 prior to retirement from the Mobile County Public School. For over 53 years, Betty Sue served alongside her husband who was a minister, She loved the Lord, loved her family, and loved being “Nana.” She is greatly loved and will be missed.
Betty Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband of almost 68 years, Rufus Howard Gaston, Jr.; son, Richard Daniel Gaston; grandson, James Leland Gaston, Jr.; granddaughter, Constance Joy Gaston; and sister, Doris Virginia Smith. She is survived by three sons, Rufus Howard Gaston, III (Teresa), James Leland Gaston, Sr. (Theresa), and Jerry Lee Gaston (Pam); one daughter, Susan Gaston-Jones (Scott); thirteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, AL. The funeral service will be in the Pine Crest chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, with interment following in Pine Crest Cemetery.
