

Betty June Cain Johnson – Age 82, died Sunday, February 12, 2012, in a local hospital after suffering pneumonia and heart issues. Mrs. Johnson was born June 1, 1929, in Mobile, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, D. B. Johnson, Jr.
She is survived by three sons, D. B. “Champ” (Twyla Phillips) Johnson, III, Howard Blake “Rocky” Johnson and Philip Wade (Bernadine Lorge) Johnson. Mrs. Johnson, known to her cherished grandchildren as “Nana Betty” also leaves Rachel Johnson (John Nicholas) Purvis, Annabelle Hope Johnson, Nathalie Lauren Johnson, and Ethan Philip Johnson. She was blessed further with two great-grandchildren, Abigail Faith Slate and John Nicholas Purvis, Jr., and a third due in May. She is also survived by one brother, Albert Cain, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Mrs. Johnson attended St. Mary's Catholic School. She was employed by Waller Brothers Office Supplies for 30 years. She was the friendly, helpful voice known to numerous customers and callers. Mrs. Johnson thoroughly enjoyed life. She was very active in local government and civic issues. She volunteered at various Senior Citizens organizations. Mrs. Johnson was a long time member of First Church of the Nazarene and was active in Women's Ministries and Senior Adult Ministries. Mrs. Johnson was a very giving person who grew up in some of the worst economic times in our country. She never hesitated to help someone in need. Betty, known to her family and many friends as the “life of the party,” was consistent with good humor and has been quoted by many that she was always the same. Her favorite hobby and interest were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from First Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 12 Noon. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Alabaster Fund to build churches across the globe.
