

Betty McDonnieal Kittrell of Mobile, passed away peacefully in her sleep October 20, 2018. She was the youngest of four children born to Ms. and Mrs. Sylvester H. McDonnieal of Summerland, Mississippi on April 16, 1930. Growing up on Summerland, her parents taught her the love of education, faith and family.
She graduated from high school at the age of 16, and went to Belhaven College for one year, transferring to the University of Southern Mississippi to complete her degree in Home Economics. At Southern she met the love of her life J. L. Kittrell. She continued her education after marriage and three children, earning a Master of Education from the University of South Alabama. With her love of education and children she became a kindergarten teacher at Orchard Elementary, where she touched the lives of many children. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Mobile, teaching Sunday school and was a member of the WMU. She loved her Church Family and was a tireless member with a servant’s heart. She loved to cook and entertain her family and friends. Her family’s favorites were her seafood gumbo and chocolate chip pound cake. Betty was a wonderful, devoted wife, mother and friend.
She is preceded in death by her Husband of 56 years J.L. Kittrell, her parents, her brother D. S.H. McDonnieal, and her Sister, Mary Nell Powell. She is survived by her loving sister Willodean Hasting of Laurel, Mississippi, three children, John L. Kittrell (Cynthia), Carol Kittrell Broughton (Jerry), Lynn Kittrell Pittman (Trip), seven grandchildren Kathryn Kittrell Comunale (Matt), Amy Kittrell Redman (Brett), Jay Broughton (Samantha) Whitfield Broughton Griffeth (Blake), Reynolds Pittman, Lee Pittman, and Virginia Pittman, four great grandchildren, William Comunale, Reece Comunale, Grace Redman, and Ruby Redman.
Celebration of Life services for Mrs. Betty M. Kittrell will be held, 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Pine Crest Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama, 36605.
The family will be receiving guests to share memories of Betty Wednesday, October 24, 2018, from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 A.M. at Pine Crest Funeral Home.
