Betty Jean Spotswood

She was a member of the Murphy High School Class of 1948. Mrs. Spotswood owned and operated Spotswood Honda in Mobile with her husband, Joe Spotswood, from 1952 until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Spotswood enjoyed cooking for family gatherings year-round. From Easter with baskets full for everyone, backyard bar-b-ques on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, Fourth of July family reunions on Mobile Bay to Christmas celebrations with lots of food, presents and laughter. She raised eight children and later adopted and raised her niece. She was known for her beautiful plants on numerous patios over the years. Her hobbies included traveling, reading and listening to a variety of music…. Her favorite song was Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary”.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Prentiss Joseph “Joe” Spotswood, Sr.; her son, Prentiss Joseph Spotswood, Jr.; her parents, Cecil R. Hopkins and Camille Hopkins Reeves; a brother, Cecil R. Hopkins, Jr., and a sister, Anne Hopkins Rogers.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted children, Amanda Louise Spotswood, Elizabeth Anne Spotswood, Annie Laurie Hartley (Jim), William Chase Spotswood, IV. (Sherri), Rev. Cecil R. Spotswood, Suzanne Marie Lassiter (Alan), Jonathan Sands Spotswood, Sr. (Kimlyn), and Laura Camille Williams; 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, also, survived by other relatives, family and friends.

Active pallbearers are Justin Hartley, Jonathan Spotswood, Jr., Ben Spotswood, Zachary Lassiter, Jacob Spotswood and Thomas Rose.

Honorary Pallbearers are Chase Spotswood, Alan Lassiter, Jim Hartley, Jonathan Spotwood, Sr. and Matt Hester, David Rose and John Paul Rose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from the Chapel of the Sacred Heart Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Rosary will be said at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens, Mobile, AL.
