

Billie Barto Thompson Sonneville, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Billie was born October 28, 1919 in Bessemer, AL to Nell Burke and William Barto Thompson. She grew up in Bessemer and graduated from high school in 1938. She attended Holy Name of Jesus School of Nursing. In 1942, Billie became a WWII nurse. She joined the Army Nursing Corps as a First Lieutenant. She was first assigned to the 148th General Hospital at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and later transferred to Saipan in the Pacific. She continued her career in nursing for over fifty years. She furthered her education at the University of South Alabama and received a degree in Art. Billie finally decided to settle down and got married at the age of 55. She married Wilhelm Sonneville in 1975. Her marriage was shortened after twelve years with Bill’s death in 1987. Billie was a member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church and many other charitable organizations. Billie loved her church and church friends. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Monday, February 29, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held in the Oakleigh Chapel at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements under the direction of Radney Funeral Home-Mobile, Mobile, AL.
