Billie J. Mitchel Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by family.
Billie lived a life filled with kindness, strength, and love. To know him was to know warmth and compassion-always ready with a listening ear, a word of encouragement or a gentle smile that could brighten even the hardest days. He was also always ready to pick, if he picked on you, you knew you were loved. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years, on the USS Coral Sea, before returning home to begin a successful career that included many adventures through his life. Most notably, he worked as an insurance agent for Interstate Life for many years, he then purchased a small insurance company of his own. He then went on to thrive as a real estate agent with Prudential-Cooper, where he was recognized many times as a member of the Million Dollar Sales Club. His dedication, determination, and strong work ethic eventually led him to build a portfolio of rental properties, which he managed with the same commitment he showed in every area of his life.
Most importantly, Billie had a strong Christian faith and loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was an active member of The Gideons International in his early life, where he devoted many years to sharing God’s Word. Billie spent countless hours visiting prisons, teaching and encouraging others, and placing Bibles in the hands of those in need. His faith was the foundation of his life and a source of hope and guidance to all who knew him.
Family was always at the center of Billie’s heart. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Glenda T. Mitchel; his son, Billie J. Mitchel Jr. (Kim); and his daughter, Michelle Crain (George). He was a proud grandfather to Chesley Crain (Lauren) and Blakley Galloway (Colt), and a loving great-grandfather to Luke Crain, Libby Crain and Lakelyn Galloway, who brought him endless joy and pride.
Billy was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie W. Mitchel; his brother, LeRoy Mitchel; and his son, Tony J. Endress.
Billie’s legacy is one of devotion, faith, laughter, and unshakable love-for his family, for his community, and for his Lord. Though his earthly journey has ended, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his faith assures us he is now at peace in the presence of God.
Billie will be deeply missed.
