Burkett Denman McConnell “Jim”, 90, life-long resident of Mobile, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2022. He was born to Burkett S. McConnell and Mary Marcet McConnell on March 3, 1932. Jim was a graduate of Murphy High School, Class of 1950. He served with the United States Navy for five years, and worked at Brookley Field until the base was closed. Jim was a firefighter for the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department for 20 plus years.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Irma McConnell; two sons, Charles Burkett "Bim" McConnell and Gregory Marcet "Greg" McConnell; granddaughter, Genesis Hancock; parents Burkett S McConnell and Mary Ellen McConnell; and one brother, Gerald "Jerry" McConnell.
He is survived by his brother, Butch McConnell; daughter-in-law Pam McConnell; granddaughters, Kassie McConnell, Charlene McConnell; great-grandson, Brandon McConnell; great-granddaughters, Heather Hancock and Tamra Smith; great-great-granddaughters, Macie Johnson and McKinley Johnson and Everleigh McConnell; great-great-grandson, Karsyn Hancock; nieces, Katie and Madison McConnell; as well as other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Jim will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
