Carla Lucille Howell, 71, passed away in Gainesville, Florida on Thursday, November 19, 2020. A life-long resident of Baldwin County, Carla was born to Carl T. “Zeke” Martin and Jessie Albright Martin on January 16, 1949 in Mobile, Alabama. She was a sassy soul, headstrong, and marched to her own beat. Carla adored animals of all types – breeding and raising exotic birds, going on camping trips with her mules, dogs, cats – whether they walked or flew she was a fan. She enjoyed traveling, and went on cruises often with her family and friends. Carla was a formidable force, was greatly loved, and will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl T. “Zeke” Martin and Jessie Albright Martin; and her loving husband, Keith D. Howell.
Carla is survived by her only child, Christine E. Davis (Randy); grandchildren, David J. Johns (April), Sandy N. Johns, James A. Johns (Amanda), Christopher A. Johns, and Kimberly A. Johns (Durell); great-grandchildren, Domenic A. Dotson, James A. Johns, Jr., Zeke A. Rose, Alexis M. Johns, Jayden J. Johns, Tyler W. Johns, and Jackson L. Johns; her two most beloved friends, Geraldine “Dino” Hammons and Pamela Vines; as well as other cherished family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2020 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
In honor of Carla’s ever laid back style, the family has asked everyone dress casual for the visitation and funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to UF Foundation, 1938 W University Ave, Gainesville, FL 32603, the memo line reading: "In Memory of Carla".
