Caroline is preceded in death by her sister, Evelina Gregory McGee, father Thomas Russell Gregory, and mother Martha Corwin Gregory.
She is lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law Dr. Larry McGee and her three nephews, Dr. Greg McGee (Gina), Dr. Stone McGee (Marie), and Dr. Tom McGee (Laura), as well as great-nephews, Colin McGee, Andrew McGee, and Cory McGee, and great-nieces Martha McGee Weidmann, Molly McGee Short, Brenna McGee Radin, Emeline McGee, and Soline McGee.
Caroline was born in Nashville, Tennessee on June 4, 1935. She graduated from the Harpeth Hall School then attended Vanderbilt University for two years before beginning work at the L&N Building in Nashville. She later served as an administrative assistant at the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
Caroline grew up in Brentwood, Tennessee at Forge Seat, an historic home that was the source and inspiration of many childhood memories and a lifetime love for animals. She later traveled to Europe several times, and always recalled with especially fond memories her summer spent as a camp counselor at Yellowstone National Park where she made many lifelong friends. Her many pet cats through her lifetime were greatly beloved, and after retirement she volunteered often at the Mobile SPCA.
Her gentle hospitality and love toward all her nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces, and even great-great-nephews and nieces were reflected in the love of art and culture she shared with them, as well as many beautiful pieces of antique furniture from her family home. Her very loving and gentle disposition was especially present in these thoughtful gestures.
To the many doctors, nurses, and sitters who looked after Caroline we offer special thanks for their devoted care through the years, especially to Jackie Strickland, RN who provided not only excellent nursing care but also conversation and companionship for many years.
A graveside service to celebrate Caroline's life will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy, Mobile.
If desired, friends may make a donation in Caroline's honor to her favorite charity Mobile SPCA at 620 Zeigler Circle West, Mobile, Al 36608.
