

Carter Alan Damp, 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025, at his home in Mobile, Alabama. He was born to Kenneth Carter Damp and Clara Alice Waggoner Damp on January 31, 1955, in Atlanta, Georgia at Fort McPherson. Carter and his family lived there until he was five, and then they moved to Mobile, Alabama, where he would remain for the rest of his life. During his childhood, he was active in Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Carter played the tuba in Junior High and High School. He graduated from Murphy High School, Class of 1973. Carter was a member of Phi Sigma Chi Fraternity.
After High School, Carter attended Faulkner Junior College, where he earned an associate’s degree. He retired in 2021 from Engineer Textile Products after 40 years of service. Through work, he was able to travel the world and enjoyed the places he got to visit. Carter met many friends through work and travels. He was a life-long member of Cottage Hill Presbyterian church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Elder, Youth Group Leader. Carter and Susan were members of the Etruscan Mardi Gras organizations and looked forward to the Ball each year.
Carter loved model trains, fishing, baking cookies, cooking Gumbo, Kayaking. Most of all he loved wood working with his dad. He was always there for his family and was their biggest fan and supporter in any activity they participated in. Carter took pride in his family and proud of all they accomplished. Carter took an interest in his daughters – making sure he taught them important life lessons and spending time with them – something his daughters will carry with them for the rest of their lives. He never met a stranger and everyone was his friend. No one was ever insignificant or small to Carter. To quote his daughter, Carlie, “Dad loved big, he celebrated big, he tried new things big, he included people big, and saw you big.” He took pride in his work and the things accomplished. Most importantly, Carter was a loving husband, father and Pop Pop.
Carter was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Carter Damp.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 48 years, Susan Carol Howell Damp; two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Damp Kyranakis (Ryan) and Carlie Allyn Damp Barbour (Simeon); grandchildren, Lauren, Jason, and Rachel Kyranakis and Ezekiel and Elijah Barbour; mother, Clara Alice Waggoner Damp; sisters, Kathleen Irving (Tom), Karen Langham (Robert), Christine Barton (Ron); as well as brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Carter will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, if you should wish, make a donation in Carter’s name to the Dementia Center of America for Lewy Body Dementia research.
