Catherine Roberds Bruce

Mrs. Catherine “Nan” Roberds Bruce, age 86, a native of Mobile, AL and a resident of Fairhope, AL since 1991, died on Saturday, July 1, 2023. She was born on March 22, 1937 to Cammack Alvin Roberds, Sr. and Helen Threadgill Roberds. Nan was a graduate of the Class of 1954 at Citronelle High School in Citronelle, AL. She retired after thirty years of service from South Central Bell (AT&T), then went to work for the Mobile County Personnel Board, retiring from there in August 1999.

After her second retirement, Nan took up painting – a talent which she became quite accomplished with. She was a member of the Eastern Shore Arts Center. Nan also enjoyed swimming, making jellies and jams, and baking her famous pound cake. She loved baking for her friends and family at Christmas. Out of all of her accomplishments, her most important one was the immense love for her family. Nan was a member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Lee Bruce, Sr.; and her parents.

Nan is survived by her brothers, Cammack Alvin (Edna) Roberds, Jr. of Kiawah Island, SC and Harold Ray Roberds of Fairhope, AL; nieces, Shawn Roberds (Timothy) Martin and Catherine Roberds (Paul) Jeter; nephews, Cain Andrew (Jennifer) Roberds, Cammack Alvin (Brandis) Roberds, and Hartwell Eldredge (Jessica) Gex, III; great nieces, Ann Elizabeth Martin, Emma Starr Jeter, Lucy Evelyn Jeter, Mary Helen Jeter, Sydney Lynn Roberds, and Rosie Liu Roberds; great nephews, William Everett Martin, Jackson Cain Roberds, Fisher Andrew Roberds, Cammack Alvin Roberds, Jr., Hartwell Eldredge Gex IV, and Sewall Lee Gex; as well as other cherished family and friends.

Visitation for Nan will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
