Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Julia Irene Coffin Carroll; his parents, Leo Charles and Estella Carroll; and two brothers, James Carroll and Kenneth Carroll.
Survivors include Dennis R Carroll (Donna), Susan Howell, and Steven C Carroll (Monica), all of Mobile; four grandsons, Seth R Carroll (Kimberly) of Madison, AL, Richard P Jones (Laura) of Birmingham, AL, Phillip Howell (Ashley), and Balin Howell of Mobile; three granddaughters, Phares L Carroll of Arlington, VA, Arminda Jeffrey (Rob), and Elizabeth Herboso, both of Mobile; and six great grandchildren: Jack Carroll, Charlotte Carroll, Emma Jones, Allison Jones, Devin Howell, Tobin Howell,.
Dick was born in Springfield, MO and was a graduate of Murphy High School. Dick was a member of the Greatest Generation and served his country as a member of the Second Marine Division of the United States Marine Corp. Dick saw action in Guam and Saipan, among other places during World War II.
Returning to Mobile, he was a founding partner in Mobile Refrigeration Service, which later became Engineered Refrigeration Systems. Dick was active in Kiwanis, Skyline Country Club, and the Boy Scouts of America. He was awarded the Silver Beaver by the BSA for his selfless contributions. Dick enjoyed his decades long Thursday afternoon golf group, had a passion for travel, particularly in the West, and became a painter in his later years.
Dick was a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church where he was ordained a deacon.
Pallbearers will be Rick Jones, Phillip Howell, Balin Howell, Rob Jeffrey, Rod Riley, and Danny Speed.
