Charles Jacques Bonaventure deLage IV

Charles Jacques Bonaventure deLage, IV, 84, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, in Gulf Breeze, FL. He was born (July 14, 1932) and raised in Mobile, AL. Charlie is a graduate of Springhill College in Mobile, and began his Civil Service career at Brookley AFB, in Mobile. Charlie moved with his young family to Gulf Breeze in 1970, where he continued his career at NARF, Pensacola NAS. Upon his retirement, Charlie continued to pursue and enjoy his passions of hunting (with his dear lifelong friend, Billy Hanlon), fishing, and just generally being outdoors. He also enjoyed long walks with his dogs, and developed a close circle of friends along his regular routes. Charlie served his country as active duty in the US Army from 1952-54, and then continued his military officer career in the USAF Reserves, where he retired as Lt. Colonel in 1992. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J.B. deLage, III and Hattie deLage, his sister, Harriett Ann Portella, and his son, Charles J.B. deLage, V. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn B. deLage, and daughters, Lisa Cleveland (Dave) and Dana Haller (Pat). Charlie also leaves behind six grandchildren: Lauren Cleveland, Carleigh Cleveland, Chuck Haller (Ashley), Jackie Haller, Woody Haller and Noah Haller, and one great granddaughter, Soraya Haller. A graveside burial service will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, AL on Monday, May 1, 2017, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM and graveside service at 10:00 AM. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, Gulf Breeze, FL, on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at 4:00 PM. The family would like to thank the loving caregivers at Regency Hospice and Muriel Finger Sitters. The compassionate care he received in the final weeks of his valiant struggle with cancer was a blessing to Charlie and all who love him.
