Born on June 11, 1973, in Mobile, Alabama, Charles was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son and brother, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ. He lived a life marked by love, laughter, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
Charles shared 26 wonderful years of marriage with his beautiful wife, Elaine. Together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, laughter, and countless memories. He was the rock of their family—a steady source of strength, encouragement, and unconditional love. Above all else, Charles was happiest wherever his family was.
Whether he was cheering from the sidelines, attending family activities, or simply spending time together, Charles was always present for the people he loved. He took great pride in supporting his children, Cailey, Hailey, and Tanner, and celebrated their accomplishments as though they were his own.
Charles had a special gift for making people smile. He loved to people-watch, often quietly observing the world around him before offering a perfectly timed, lighthearted comment that would leave everyone laughing. His quick wit, playful humor, and easygoing spirit brought joy to those fortunate enough to know him.
A devoted Alabama football fan, Charles enjoyed cheering on the Crimson Tide, working on his tractor, tackling projects around the house, and traveling with his family. Trips to Disney World brought treasured memories, but for Charles, the destination was never as important as the people beside him.
His love for Jesus was reflected not only in his words but also in his actions. Charles had a servant’s heart and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His travels to Guatemala to minister to others were a reflection of his desire to share God’s love and make a difference in the lives of those around him.
Throughout his battle with leukemia, Charles demonstrated remarkable courage, perseverance, and faith. Even in the most difficult moments, his love for his family remained constant. His strength was not simply found in how hard he fought, but in the grace, love, and peace with which he faced each day.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Collier Lamar Starkey, as well as several extended family members.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Elaine Starkey; his children, Cailey, Hailey, and Tanner; his mother, Sandra Starkey; his sisters, Melissa (Bill) Gilbert and Alecia (Terry) Castleberry; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Though his family will miss his laughter, his steady presence, and the countless little ways he made ordinary days extraordinary, they find comfort in knowing that Charles is now resting in the arms of his Savior.
His legacy will live on in the family he loved so fiercely, the lives he touched so generously, and the memories that will forever bring both tears and smiles.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Charles’s honor to West Mobile Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society’s Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge in New Orleans, Louisiana. Both organizations held a special place in Charles’s life and in the hearts of his family.
