Charley James Deuel of Mobile passed away Monday, May 22, 2023. He was the youngest of six children born to Victoria Kinsler and Homer Roswell Deuel in Castleberry, Alabama. He was married for 70 years to his high school sweetheart, Janice Oliver Deuel. He is survived by his wife, Janice, and three children, Teresa (David) Boone of Germantown, Tennessee, Sharron Deuel of Palm Bay, Florida, and Charley Deuel, Jr. of Mobile; three grandchildren, Ross (Tuyet) Boone of Alexandria, Virginia, Graham Boone of Washington, DC, and Chloe Deuel of Mobile and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Upon graduation from Auburn University School of Pharmacy Charley served in the U. S. Army as a pharmacist and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. After his military service he and his young family moved to Mobile where he worked as a pharmacist for many years before retiring. Known for his professionalism, compassion and pleasant humor, he owned and operated Deuel Drugs for 35 years completing a 58-year career.
Raised in Castleberry, Charley had many jobs growing up. One was he drove the ice truck for his family’s Deuel Power & Ice Company where he also picked up mechanic, electrical, and carpentry skills from his father. While in high school he also drove the school bus.
His favorite pastime was spending it with his family. The endearments of Granddaddy and Nanana were treasured by him.
