

Charlie Verdo “C.V.” Cartee – loving husband and father of five, an 81 year-old native of Ralph, AL and longtime resident of Mobile was called home by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Mr. Cartee retired from American General Life Insurance (formerly Independent Life) as a District Manager after 57 years of service. He was a 38 year member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church and was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He was also a former member of Toastmasters, the Jaycees, and Sertoma and was highly respected by his peers in the insurance industry. Mr. Cartee especially enjoyed his involvement in the local political arena. He was preceded in death by his son, James “Mark” Cartee; grandson, Aaron “Blake” Cartee; parents, Johnny Edmond Cartee and Beulah Cartee Duncan; step-father, Hugh Duncan; brothers, John William Cartee, Sammie Clyde Cartee, and Cecil D. Duncan; and sister, Norma Cartee Miller. Mr. Cartee is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Edell Bolton Cartee; children, Bonnie Cartee Haire (Joe), Charles Randy Cartee, Sharon Cartee Douglas (Dewey), and Linda Cartee Snyder (Sid); 10 grandchildren to whom he was lovingly known as “Pops,” Misty Buzbee (Greg), Ryan Best (Shea), Andrew Haire (Ashley), Brooke Cartee (Chris), Jonathan Cartee (Nichole), Robby Cartee (Christina), April Miller (Brent), Christopher Douglas, Jared Douglas (Amy), and Mark Snyder; 23 great-grandchildren; his canine companion, “Gabby”; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 13, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
