Charlotte (“Toddy”) Miriam Lyons Steiner, a native Mobilian, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 27, 2020 surrounded by her family and close friends after an arduous journey with cancer.
Toddy was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. All whom she encountered were captivated by her beauty and vibrance. Her sparkling eyes, infectious smile, warmth, quick wit and mischievous sense of humor brightened the lives of so many. She marched to the beat of a different drummer, making her own rules and creating her own path like a true leader. Her actions throughout her life reflected the depth of her grace, compassion and uncanny, intuitive sense.
Toddy was an insatiably curious lifelong learner. She was a talented artist and she dabbled in writing poetry. She was known for her love of the beach and no matter how far she traveled, she always found herself back on the Coast. She was even featured in an ad for Alabama beaches.
She had the gift of a green thumb and spent countless hours planting and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her granddaughter, Lexi, whom she taught to be present in every moment, to laugh unabashedly, and to seek the extraordinary in the ordinary.
Toddy was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Faye Lyons. She is survived by her children, Victoria (Rick) Lisenba, Ronald (Sonia) Steiner, Angela (Gary) Donegan, Emily (Barry) McLain, Rose Mary (Steve) Mack, and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to Steven G. Alsip, MD; Connie Randall, RN, Lanie Giles, RN and members of the Saad’s Hospice Inpatient Care Team -- all of whom were not only professional but went above and beyond to care for Toddy and provide support to her family; Donna Furrow and Diane Jones, family friends, who both tirelessly helped care for Toddy and stayed by her side; and the many close friends whose prayers, unwavering support and kindness helped ease the sadness of losing a truly remarkable woman and mother who was very much needed, loved, and will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be led by Father James Zoghby on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Mobile, Alabama.
