Claude Henry Massengale, born September 13, 1948, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on October 18, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents Aimee and Marvin Massengale. He is survived by his brother Howard (Susan), and sisters Lorna Stanard (Tut) and Carol Conrad (John).
Claude was a native Mobilian who became a well known figure throughout the city. He was often seen riding his bicycle on Old Shell Road during his daily route to the Country Club of Mobile Golf Pro Shop where he worked for many years. Woody Woodall, now deceased, was especially kind to Claude and treated him like family. Many thanks to current manager Scott Smith and his staff for their friendship and understanding during his time there.
Claude especially enjoyed Mardi Gras parades and hamburgers at Callaghan’s. He was fortunate to have special friends who took him on hunting and fishing trips. He was proud to display photos and trophies from many of these outings.
Claude was very fond of his nieces and nephew, as well as their children and proudly displayed their photos in his room. His nephew, Jeff Massengale, was especially attentive to Claude with nightly phone calls which were very meaningful to him.
The family is forever grateful to First Light Community of Mobile where Claude lived for over 11 years. Special thanks to Marty and Bridget as well as all of the team members for the loving and dignified care they extended to Claude each and every day. They allowed him to be an independent individual while ensuring that his well-being and personal needs were always met.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, at Pine Crest Funeral Home located at 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway from 4-6 p.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to:
