Dana Michael Thornley “Mike”, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in Mobile, Alabama. Mike was born to Woodrow Thornley and Annie McPherson Thornley on June 23, 1953, in Mobile, but lived in Chickasaw his whole life. He was a graduate of Vigor High School, Class of ’71, and remained extremely devoted to the Chickasaw community his entire life. Mike’s first job was at the Winn-Dixie in Chickasaw, and then he moved into management with Delchamps before wrapping up his career helping to open and manage the Walmart in Saraland. He also owned and maintained rental properties during this time.
To say Mike was an Alabama Crimson Tide fan would be an understatement. He lived and breathed Alabama football (Roll Tide!). Mike was an avid fisherman and was blessed to take a fishing trip with his cherished older brother, Jerry, to Ferriday, Louisiana to fish for Brim, and another trip to visit Jerry when he lived in Costa Rica. Mike was a lover of 70’s and 80’s music and was a fantastic dancer. He loved cars – especially classic cars – and would’ve lived in the Happy Days era his whole life if given the opportunity. Mike enjoyed watching a good movie and always looked forward to a good meal. He was a humorous, caring, and kind man who loved to hold a good conversation and be around people. Mike was an amazing brother and friend and will be greatly missed.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Annie McPherson Thornley; his father, Woodrow Thornley; brother, Arthur Thornley; and one sister, Eleanor Rudder.
He is survived by his beloved brother, Gerald R. Thornley; sisters, Rosemary Thornley and Carol Pugh; as well as a host of nieces, a nephew, great-niece, great-nephew, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Mike will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, in the Pine Crest Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to SAAD’s Hospice and the staff of The Retreat at SAAD’s Hospice, as well as Dr. Haley Ballard at USA Medical Center.
