David Kennedy Blough left this life on April 15, 2016. He was born in Natchez, Mississippi, graduated from Natchez High School where he attained the rank of an Eagle Scout. He was in the ROTC during his years at Auburn University graduating with a BS degree in math. He received a Master of Science in Engineering, Industrial Engineer, from the University of Florida with a major in computer sciences and a minor in statistics in 1968.
After graduation, he served in the US Army between 1968 and 1970 and was in Vietnam as 1st Lieutenant, U.S. Army Inventory Control Center.
Upon his return from Vietnam, he worked briefly for International Paper Company as an Associate Systems Analyst, but beginning in late 1970, he worked for the University of South Alabama for the next forty-plus years of his career. Starting as a programmer he subsequently worked in various positions at the Computer Center serving as the Assistant Vice President for University Computer Services with the Computer Services Center. After retiring from the University, he spent an additional two years as the Chief Information Officer with the University of South Alabama Hospital, retiring in 2013. He was also active in a number of mystic societies in Mobile. He was a previous member of the Camelia and Rose societies, a love he shared with his father.
His greatest enjoyment away from work involved hunting and fishing and spending time in the outdoors with friends and family. He will be remembered by those who knew him as one who was loyal and always there to offer a helping hand. He had a special talent for caring for others and always thinking of ways to show his love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Blough and Sarah Catherine Kennedy Blough of Natchez, MS.
He is survived by his wife, Genie Grey Gadilhe Blough; two stepdaughters, Holly (John) Bailey of Charleston, WV, and Lauren (John) Hensley of Mobile; brother Jim (Mary Ann) Blough of Natchez, MS; nephews Jaime (Kathy) Blough of Conway, AR, and Christian Blough of Baton Rouge, LA. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: John Milligan Hensley, Charles Harmon Hensley, and James Walter Hensley II of Mobile; and John Kennedy Bailey, Brooks Holman Bailey, and Elizabeth Edge Bailey of Charleston, WV. Most of all he loved his family and they loved him.
Visitation will be at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church (Dauphin Street) in Mobile at 10am on Tuesday, April 19th, and will be followed by a Celebration of David’s Life at 11am. A private burial service for the family will be held prior to visitation.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Tom Damson, Jodie Little, Ron Maddox, Matt Moore, Robbie Tacon, Ricky Fuquay, Paul Stabler, Hardy Demoranville, Jud Freeman, Jamie Blough, Christian Blough, and Charlie Green
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Dauphin Way United Methodist Church in David’s name.
