

He graduated from the Fields School and McIntosh Union High School prior to receiving his Bachelors of Science and Masters of Education Degrees in the field of Mathematics from Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL.
David served in the United States military for three years during the Korean War. He later entered the field of Education and taught high school in Lee County, AL, Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA and eventually returned to Chicago where he served as an assistant high school principal and, later, head principal. After years of devoting his life to fostering the academic development of African-Americans, he transitioned into corporate America. He was hired by the Xerox Corporation as a District Manager and was rapidly promoted to Vice President of Sales, overseeing 18 major metropolitan areas including Chicago, New York, Arlington, VA, and finally, the Greater Boston area.
At the age of 65, after achieving much success at Xerox, David retired and began a new career as an independent stockbroker, establishing his own company and achieving great wealth for many clients in the New England area. In 2004, he retired and relocated to Mobile, Alabama to be closer to his family. He was loved and cherished by everyone who crossed his path.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Henry H. Fields, Sr. and Amanda Fields; four sisters, Janie Foreman, Ola M. Knowles, Ella F. Wiley and Willie Lee Sanders; and three brothers, Robert Fields, Loyal Foster, and Rev. Henry H. Fields, Jr.
Survivors include his very loving and faithful wife of 38 years, Maejim Fields; a devoted daughter and son-in-law, Daya Fields and Gowshihan Sriharan and an expected grandchild in August; six devoted sisters, Ruth B. Massey, Henrietta F. Cooper, Gertrude F., Pearlie (George) Holcombe, Bessie M. Nettles, and Mary F. (Albert) Taylor; two devoted brothers, Dr. Uriah J. Fields and Presiding Elder Jonathan E. (Clarine) Fields; two brothers-in-law, Frederick Bailey and John Alfred Bailey; four sisters-in-law, Julia Walthor, Elizabeth Bailey, Earlene Bailey and Patricia Davis; one aunt, Bertha Settlewhite; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
David Fields was a loyal, affectionate and generous husband and an eternally dedicated father whose life centered around his family. He will be deeply missed and dearly remembered.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. celebration of his incredible life and legacy.
