
GROSS, DR. W DAVID, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013. David was born on March 17, 1926 in Dothan, AL to Cornelius Oscar Gross and Eva Alma Gross. After being raised in Chipley, FL, he joined the Army Air Corps where he served as a Ball Turret Gunner during World War II on B17 Bombers during flights from England to Germany. After his discharge, he attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn), earning a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1952. After interning in Pensacola, FL, he began practicing Veterinary Medicine in Mobile, AL in 1953, eventually opening Gross Animal Clinic in 1960. During his 58 year career as a veterinarian, he served as President of the Mobile Baldwin Veterinary Medical Association in 1966, and President of the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association from 1971-1972. David loved the Lord and was an active member in the Community of Christ Church, serving as an Elder in the Priesthood. He loved boating and the open water, and spent many days fishing and shrimping with his family and friends. Other hobbies included flying airplanes, golfing, gardening, and hunting. In honor of his military service, he attended the third Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2010. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Peggy Gross, daughter Shannon (Tom) Rutledge, two sons David Jr (Monica) Gross and Drew Gross, four grandchildren Trey, Finch, and Victoria Gross, and Kyley Jay Fierris, and great grandchild Marley May Fierris. Visitation is from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 11 at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery
