My brother, David was a FAU Florida Atlantic University Science graduate as a Conservation Biologist. Before working for the FDOT environmental, he had worked in civil engineering and sporting goods. After Florida Department of Transportation, he moved on to Wetlands Enforcement with the US Army Corps of Engineers in Mobile District until retirement.
His sports included hunting, target shooting, archery, fly fishing, ham radio, photography,..Dave has lots of hobbies and was always trying to get me involved in them. We have been members of the DCARC Davie-Cooper City Amateur Radio Club who is honoring his life with a “silent key” on Thursday, May 14 @ 7:30 pm.
David followed in our fathers’ footsteps as a Mason and helped me get into Eastern Star like mom. Dave was a Shriner at Mobile, AL. He was in Coast Guard Auxiliary for a number of years and actually on cutter duty in Mobile Bay.
David loved animals and we used to have dog family members always. Almost forgot that both David and our dad were active with the Boy Scouts. Our childhood was on or near Army and Air bases due to dad’s vocation with the pentagon and living in northern Virginia. We would try to meet up with the Andersons, dad’s best friends family from Air Force in mountains in NJ.
We both lived for our adventures together in the Florida Keys and lunch out on Alligator Alley. And, when my guy Charlie was around, we did Disney World many times and a great cruise to Alaska.
David was the oldest volunteer/cadet at Mobile Police Academy at the age of 50 but only could not complete the physical training. He scored high in all else, from what I understand, especially at shooting range, of course. He liked to give back to his community and country.
I miss him so much already since we usually talk several times a day. Dave, you will never be alone as you are taking part of my heart with you along with the Chips Ahoy I packed in with him. He is wearing Levi’s and a coastal look shirt with sea turtles and a FAU T-shirt ( only missing a slice of pepperoni pizza).
Love till we meet again.
