Dean Bartlett “Bart” May, 51, was called home to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ, Sunday, June 30, 2019, after a hard – fought battle for 14 days with an unknown illness. A resident of Semmes, AL, Bart was born in Mobile, AL., December 28, 1967 and called Mobile, AL. home until he graduated from Davidson High School and left the Port City to pursue collegiate athletics in Oklahoma where he excelled in both baseball and soccer. A true patriot, Bart answered the call to serve his country and left college to join the United States Navy I 1987 where he found himself often forward deployed on the Navy’s most advanced warships involved in humanitarian missions in Africa and Operation Desert Storm in the Middle East. He continued his service at the military prisons guarding terrorist in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba until retirement in 2008. Over 21 years in the Navy, Bart earned an Extended list of commendations citations and medals too numerous to list and retired achieving the rand SK1(SW). Bart’s service to his country continued with Homeland Security at the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) where he was currently employed as Lead Transportation Security Officer. While at TSA , Bart was the keynote speaker at two conferences for the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and offered insight into his face to face experiences with terrorists while stationed at Guantanamo Bay.
A loving and devoted husband, father, son and brother, Bart is survived by his wife Tammy; sons, Brandon, Chase and Cameron; his mother, Sharon and siblings, Jim, Tammy, Terry, Bret, Jon and Ryan, also, survived by other relatives and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Radney Funeral Home, Mobile, A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel of Radney Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m.
