Debra was born on November 9th, 1949 in Dubuque, Iowa to Lester and Miriam Lippe. She spent much of her life on the Gulf Coast, graduating from Pascagoula High School and attending Gulf Coast Community College for a nursing degree. She married Kenneth Hewett and traveled as a nurse and a navy wife, adopting her two sons, Paul and Jon, before giving birth to her daughter, Laurie, and thereby becoming a loving mother.
Debra was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Order of the Eastern Star. She will be remembered for her great love of nursing, her card ministries, and the great kindness and sacrificial service she showed to those around her. She enjoyed reading, travelling, and spending time with her pets.
Debra is survived by her children, Paul Michael Hewett (son), Jonathan Glenn Hewett and Christa Ann Hewett (son and daughter-in-law), Laurel Elizabeth Hewett (daughter), her grandchildren, Anya, Skylar, and Coryn Hewett, her step-grandchildren, Kenny and Magon, along with their children, her brothers, Stephen B. Lippe (Debra) and Mark C. Lippe (Tara) and their children , and preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Hewett, and her brother-in-law, Hugh Hewett (Nita), and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Langston and Nelda Hewett.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 26th, at 10am at Christ United Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Christ United Church.
The family wishes to thank her many friends and caretakers at Somerby, her many friends from Satsuma United Methodist Church, the pastoral staff of Christ United Church and Satsuma United Methodist Church, and her caretaker, Sandra Kelly, for their support and kindness.
