Donald L. Langham, age 82, a native of Mobile, Alabama passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021. Services for Mr. Langham will be Thursday, January 28, 2021, at 12 noon, at Trinity Episcopal Church followed by burial service at Pine Crest Cemetery at 1 p.m. The services will be officiated by the Rector of Trinity Church, The Reverend Dr. Mary Jayne Ledgerwood. Social distancing guidelines and facemasks will be required.
Don retired as International Vice President from the United Steel, Paper, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union. Also, Langham served on the Executive Committee as the North American Chair for the International Chemical, Energy and Mine Workers (ICEM), a worldwide trade union. His service in the labor industry spanned more than 40 years. His work and accomplishments can be summed up in an inscription from the late Sen. Howell Heflin in his book, A Judge in the Senate, “For Don Langham, a special friend, with thanks for all his contributions and support of our nation, state, working people and me”. Langham’s community accomplishments included: President Pro Tempore of the University of South Alabama (USA) Board of Trustees, Chairman of Volunteers Of America Southeast, and Chairman of the Mobile Housing Authority. He was a member of Class II Leadership Alabama.
He enjoyed membership in Mobile mystic societies, wildlife associations, Masonic, York Rite, Scottish Rite bodies and Abba Shrine. Don was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he was a member of the vestry and was involved in numerous outreach projects. He was baptized on October 3, 1947 and was faithful in worship throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice Williamson Langham, and his daughter, Katherine Pope of Mobile, AL. He is also survived by his grandchildren Will Beason (Brittany) of Dothan, AL, Caroline Pope and Julia Pope of Mobile, great grandson, William Beason of Dothan, AL., and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by daughter, Lynne Langham Blissett, his sister, Doris Langham Powell, and his parents James Elbert and Grace Patrick Langham.
