
On August 13, 2011, Doris McGill Watt died quietly after a long illness. Mrs. Watt was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Jeff, and her youngest son, Wendell. The mother of five sons, Mrs. Watt is survived by four sons: Walter Watt and his wife Danette of Alton, IL; Winston Watt and his wife Beebe of Haymarket, VA; William Watt and his wife Vivian of Mobile; and Wesley Watt and his wife Susan of Mobile. Other survivors include her brother, Winston McGill and his wife Norma of Vestavia Hills, AL; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Born April 19, 1929, to Oscar and Bertha McGill, Doris was a lifelong Mobilian, graduated from Murphy High School where she met the love of her life, Jeff; attended Southwest Missouri State University; married in 1949;, and proceeded to raise her family in Mobile. Mrs. Watt was employed by Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church as Church Secretary and by the University of South Alabama as Secretary to the History and Political Science Departments from which she retired.
Doris had a passion for genealogy and Mobile history. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Revolution (DAR), the Mayflower Society of Mobile, the National Society of Colonial Dames 17th Century and the Magna Charta Dames & Barons. Mrs. Watt enjoyed her weekends at Gulf Shores, reading and sewing.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home with visitation starting at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery with a reception immediately following in the Pine Crest Cemetery community hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association to aid in its pursuit of a cure for lung diseases.
