Douglas Allan Jameson, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents Edward Jennings and Dorothy Dot (Holcomb) Jameson, brother Edward Theodore "Ted" Jameson of Aztec, NM and beloved dogs Runt, Jake, Chelsea, Piper, Bonnie and Ellie.
Doug grew up in Farmington, NM and graduated from Farmington High School in 1962. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1964, serving in Vietnam and Korea before his stations at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, FL; Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX; and Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS, where he called home after retiring in 1986 as MSGT with an Honorable Discharge. Not one to stop moving forward, Doug then built a second career at Northrop Grumman (Ingalls) Shipbuilding, retiring again in 2001.
A leap year baby, Doug loved to tell you how many birthdays he'd had and that next year would have been his 20th. He enjoyed parking his motor home at the lake, woodworking and all forms of tinkering, peanut butter candy, and was a dedicated nanny to his granddaughter. In his final days he daydreamed of fishing, either lazily casting a line from his bass boat or a broader casting of his net for mullet off the old Point Cadet marina pier in Biloxi. His electric wheelchair was reimagined as a red motorcycle rounding mountain curves as a young airman stationed in the Philippines, instead of the straightaway halls of W. F. Green State Veterans Home. He read every book--sometimes twice--in his great library of war stories mixed with the occasional Calvin and Hobbes comic book and a shelf dedicated to the "how-to-guides" for building and repairing anything he could touch or see. It should be known that what he couldn't repair would later seed great but quiet regrets.
Doug is survived by his wife and partner of 53 years, Theresa Jameson of Mobile, AL; daughters Julie Jameson of Eureka Springs, AR, and Patty Jameson of Mobile, AL; granddaughter Daisy Detiveaux of Costa Mesa, CA; sister Carol Jameson of Flora Vista, NM; and his faithful dog Zack of Mobile, AL.
Graveside committal services will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery Columbarium on Thursday, October 5, 2023 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with military honors.
