E. Carl Robitzsch

Born March 30, 1949, to Earnest Robitzsch and Sadie Young Robitzsch, Carl was a lifelong resident of the Mobile community. He graduated as Class Valedictorian of C.F. Vigor High School in 1967. He went on to earn a degree from the University of South Alabama College of Engineering. While at South Alabama, Carl completed an internship in Cocoa Beach, Florida, working with NASA in support of the Apollo 11 program—the historic mission that first landed humans on the Moon in 1969.

On December 26, 1970, during a college quarter break, Carl married Linda Jones. The couple shared 55 years of marriage until her passing. Following graduation, Carl began his career as an electrical engineer with South Central Bell, where he remained throughout his entire professional life as the company evolved through BellSouth and later AT&T. During his 34-year career, he advanced into construction management leadership roles, including serving as State Manager of Construction, before retiring in 2011.

Carl’s greatest passions were his family, boating, saltwater fishing, community involvement, caring for a beautiful home and yard, and helping others in need. He was also a devoted and enthusiastic supporter of University of South Alabama Jaguar athletics, often traveling with his wife Linda and friends to cheer on the Jaguars both at home and on the road. He lived these values daily and will be remembered for his quiet generosity, steady presence, and love of the Gulf Coast waters.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Linda Jones Robitzsch; and by his parents, Earnest Robitzsch and Sadie Young Robitzsch.

Carl is survived by his sons, Michael Robitzsch (Jennie Oliver Robitzsch) of Chunchula, Alabama, and Steven Robitzsch (Jamie Wilson) of Brooklyn, New York; his sisters, Barbara Brisendine, widow of the late Paul Brisendine, and Carlene Hadaway, widow of the late Dave Hadaway; grandchildren Cole Robitzsch (Bailey Smith Robitzsch) and Avery Robitzsch, currently in Auburn, Alabama; his brother-in-law, Howard Jones of Mobile, Alabama; and many other family members, friends, and relatives who will miss him dearly.

In accordance with Carl’s wishes, a memorial service is not planned. Cremation has taken place, and his ashes will be scattered in the Gulf of America together with those of his beloved wife, Linda.

Carl’s life reflected dedication to family, professional excellence, and quiet service to others. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
