

Earl Musgrove Eggers, M.D. passed away at Providence Hospital on January 3, 2017. He was born on December 23, 1925 in Alexandria, LA. He spent most of his youth in Alexandria and Lake Charles, LA. He joined the U. S. Navy at the age of 17 in 1943. During WW II he served as a radio technician aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S Shangri La. Upon discharge in 1947 he returned to Alexandria. He attended Louisiana College in Pineville where he met his bride to be, Dorothy Edna Jordan. They married in 1949 and remained married 63 years, until Dorothy’s death in 2012.He graduated from Louisiana College in 1950 with multiple majors in sciences and math. He then attended medical school at LSU in New Orleans, graduating in 1954. His internship and residency years were accomplished in Ohio, Michigan, and New Orleans. He served as a pathologist at hospitals in Natchez, MS, then moved to Mobile, AL in 1961 to work at the old Providence Hospital on Springhill Avenue. He co-founded Pathology Laboratory Associates (PLA) in 1966. Over the years PLA provided services to Providence, Doctors, Knollwood Park, and Springhill memorial hospitals in Mobile. He left PLA in 1999 and worked at the Mobile Infirmary until he retired in 2010. Throughout his career he undertook several professional activities and was a member and officer of a number of professional associations. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and his second son Gerald of Winston-Salem, NC; parents Statie and Gladys Eggers of Alexandria, LA; brothers John W. Eggers and S. Preston Eggers of Baton Rouge, LA. He is survived by his children Laurence (Geraldine), Dennis (Denise), Jordan William (Pam), Jeannie Scott (John), Allen, Julia Martin ( James) , Joy Marie Levens and daughter-n-law Charlotte Eggers. He also leaves behind one sister, Betty Lancaster of Baton Rouge, 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Jan. 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Radney Funeral Home Chapel on Dauphin Street. Visitation will be held that same day at 1:00 pm. The Interment will be at Pine Crest Cemetery following the service. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, LA.
