Earl “Uncle Earl” Holland Purvis, 83, of Satsuma, AL, went to be with the Lord on June 3rd, 2026 at Sacred Heart Residence – Little Sisters of the Poor in Mobile, AL.
Earl was diagnosed with a brain tumor after graduating high school in Kemper County, MS. At only 18, many doctors believed he wouldn’t make it, but God had a different plan for him. Through his physical disabilities and learning challenges, Earl always had a positive attitude, beautiful smile and pure heart. He was a blessing to his family and never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family, eating savory meals – especially desserts, diet coke and coffee.
He was a member of the Socialization Program at the Cleveland House in Saraland, AL for many years before becoming a resident of Little Sister of the Poor in Mobile, AL. Earl enjoyed his last year there, becoming a member of the Men’s Club, participating in various activities and was even crowned the 2026 King of Mardi Gras.
Earl was preceded in death by his mother, Earline Williams; sister, Carl Jean Ivey; brother, J.C. Purvis and Sister-in-law, Helen Purvis.
Earl is survived by his brother, Harry Purvis; nephews, Jimmy Purvis (Jody) and Joe Purvis; nieces, Denise Ferrer (Richard) and Stephanie Ivey McAleer (John); as well as a great nephew and four great nieces.
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the carl Earl received throughout his life at home with his mother, Earline, and brother, Harry. We would especially like to thank Angie, Ashley, Willie, Jezelle, Railey, Mary Marie, Shay Jennifer and Gwin. We could not have provided the necessary care, loyalty, love and dedication without their help.
Lastly, our family would like to thank the Little Sisters of the poor. We will forever be grateful to the Mother, Sisters and Staff for the amazing and Loving care they gave Earl during his time here.
A memorial for Earl will be held on Friday, June 19th, 2026 at 11:00 am Mass at Sacred Heart Residence – Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Avenue, Mobile, Alabama 36604.
