Edith Frances Boudan, known affectionately to family as “Lay-Lay” died on the morning of Sunday February 16, 2020 at the age of 85 in Richard Murphy Hospice House, Hammond, LA. Her two beloved nieces Angie and Brigide were at her bedside.
The daughter, sister and aunt, born May 21, 1934, was the youngest of 5 children. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene A. and Theresa Collins Boudan, as well as her brother James J. Boudan and sisters Catherine B. Comeaux and Rena C. Boudan, and brother John G. Boudan.
Edith worked for the Archdiocese of Mobile in the Mission Office for many years, then for Mr. Tommy’s Hair Salon, Southern Elegance and lastly Allure Hair Studio well into her late 70’s until health prevented her from working. She loved her work family and having clients to talk to was her main reason to keep working.
As a life-long member of St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church she devoted many hours to the care of the flowers around the church at one time and was dedicated to the church’s annual Lawn Party along-side her sister Rena. They were famous for their baked stuff crabs, it was truly a labor of love. She was also a member of the St. Phillip Neri Rosary Altar Society, Bellefontaine 50+ Club, & Club 31- Mon Louis Island.
If you called her and asked “do you want to go” the answer was always yes. Lay-Lay loved to go anywhere someone was willing to take her whether down the street, across town or across country. Her passion was flowers and plants of all varieties and she was well known for her green thumb bringing home sad plants from everywhere and making them flourish.
Edith also had a very close and personal relationship with Sue Strunk who attentively cared for her in sickness and health many times in the last few years. They enjoyed a special friendship adopting each other; Edie always called Sue her “angel”. Our family is extremely grateful for the love and friendship Sue shared with Edie while she was her guardian angel on earth.
She is survived by her sister in-law Mrs. Myrtle “Lisa” (James) Boudan, nieces Mrs. Angelicia B. (Clint) Wagner of Albany, LA, Ms. Brigide I. Boudan of Bellefontaine, AL, great-niece Mrs. Brianne H. (Joshua) Threeton, of Springfield, LA; great-nephew Dr. Jim C. (Paige) Hall of Madisonville, LA along with several great-grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 22, 2020 at St Philip Neri Catholic Church with recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am, followed by internment in the Boudan Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the services in the Church Community Hall.
