
A native Mobilian, she was born January 27, 1932 to Perry Guy King and Gladys Freeman King. She passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 in Walterboro, South Carolina. At a young age she participated in local social events in Mobile. At ages 4 and 5 she was a maid in the juvenile coronation held during Mardi Gras. She was queen of the first balloon race sponsored by the Mobile Press-Register. She was a pupil of Ruth Wilkins Studio of Dance. In her teens, she became a pupil of Madame Rose Palmai. She was a member of the Mobile Opera Guild Workshop where she sang the soprano lead in RSVP and sang in the TELEPHONE. She attended Old Shell Road School, Barton Academy and was a 1949 graduate of Murphy High School. While at Murphy she sang the soprano lead in the FIRE PRINCE and the MIKADO. She sang in the chorus of many operas, was the guest artist at the piano recital of H.S. Sauls, and sang at the weddings of many friends. She enjoyed many years with her classmates after graduation attending reunions, parties, and luncheons. She worked in real estate and was legal assistant for Virginia Haas, retiring in 1999. She moved to Fairhope in 2000 and joined the Baldwin Senior Travelers and became secretary and a member of the board and traveled until 2014. In 2014 she moved to South Carolina to live with her youngest daughter. She married in 1953 and had 3 children, Harford Field, III (Doris), Melinda Louise Gray (Roy), and Karen Lee Barker (Scott), 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017 in Pine Crest Cemetery.
