She was born in Birmingham, Ala. on November 19, 1925 to John and Beulah Sprinkle. At thirteen, her family moved to Mobile where she then graduated from Murphy High School and later attended the University of Alabama.
Edith established a career in real estate, working for Gandy Real Estate as well as Roberts Brothers Realty. She subsequently worked at Gayfer's Department store, where she later retired from in 1994. Edith was a long-time member of Wesley Chapel, St. Mark's and Dauphin Way United Methodist churches. She was a loving mother of her three children, an avid bridge player, gardener, reader and had a passion for cooking and spending time with her family at their beach house on Cotton Bayou.
She is survived by her daughters, Joni Chico (Buddy), Susanne Heck (Ken), son Steven Tapia (Dana), grand-children Amy Todd Boswell, Andrew Chico, Forrest Todd, Whitney Chico Christopher, Hunter Todd, Catherine Chico, Kayci, Kristian and Kloe Tapia, great grand-children Brody and Colby Boswell, Landyn Todd, brothers James, Ray and Glenn Sprinkle and numerous other relatives and close friends.
Edith was preceded in death by her former husband, Homer G. Tapia, grand-daughter Meggan Todd and her brother, Jack Sprinkle. Edith passed away in the presence of her children.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 16, from 5-8pm at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 17, at 2pm at A. Carl Adkins Chapel at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. Interment following at Mobile Memorial Gardens, 6040 Three Notch Road in Theodore, Ala.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dumas Wesley Community Center.
