Frances Lee Young (September 17, 1928 – May 13, 2018), 89 years of age passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her devoted family on Mother’s Day. She was born in Birmingham and grew up in Mobile. She was the last of her generation and was preceded in death by her husband, Claud E. Young, Sr.; her twin brother, Franklin Lee; other siblings, Alice George, William “Buddy” Lee, Ada Young, and Pat Miller; and her great grandchild, Jesse Ballard.
Frances fell in love and married Claud E. Young, Sr and they lived all over the world during his Air Force career. She was active in the Air Force Family Services, in her children’s schools and PTO, and active in their churches at every duty station. Upon Claud’s death in 1974, Frances moved back home to Mobile. One of her passions was taking care of small children. She was always there for the little ones and kept many of her grandchildren, friend’s children and others over the years. It was a sight to behold to watch those little ones follow her singing to the back room for nap time. She taught us all how to be better parents by helping to raise two generations of our children.
Frances Young is survived by her children, Margaret (Dwayne) Coleman of Texas, their children, Robert, Lisa and Kenneth; Chet (Miriam) Young of Virginia, their children, Stacey, Melissa, Buddy, and Tony; Edna Thompson of Mobile and her children, William, Angela, and Michael; Claud Young, Jr. of Mobile and his children, Sarah, Diana, and Katie; Karan (Michael) Olson of Texas and their children, Kara and Michelle; her niece Frankie Young of Mobile; 31 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, other relatives, and her much-loved dog, Ivan. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Pine Crest Funeral Home Thursday May 17th from 5-8 with the service on Friday the 18th at 2. Pastor Mike Hall officiating.
