Edward Roberts Leatherbury (Rob), died peacefully at his home July 20, 2019. Rob was born in Mobile, Alabama on October 25th, 1936 and lived here all of his life. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Frank and Laura Leatherbury.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Shain, his three children, Frank, Alicia, Robbie, his grandchildren Ian, Alex, Isabel, Katie and Shain, and his great grandson Jack.
Rob attended Auburn University. He served in the Army National Guard and during Vietnam he served the Army in his capacity as owner of Ryan-Walsh Stevedoring Co. who had the contracts to provide stevedoring services for the Army and US Merchant Marine Fleet delivering supplies and armaments. He retired from Cooper T. Smith as a Senior Vice President.
Rob was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Mobile and St. Pauls Episcopal Chapel in Magnolia Springs. He was very active in his community. He served on the Senior Bowl committee, Mobile Baykeeper Board of Directors, several Mystic Societies, AmSouth Board of Directors, National Maritime Safety Association, Mobile Steamship Association, Alabama State Pilotage Commission.
He was also known for his love of fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club, Labrador Retriever Club Inc., Suggsville Social Club and Sporting Palace ( AKA Cedar Creek ) and Beaver Creek Hunting Club. He was a founding member of the Mobile Amateur Retriever Club, Lower Alabama Hunting Retriever Club, and Bay Area Retriever Club.
He participated in many Regional and National Retriever events where he enjoyed great success and many wins.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10 am with a reception immediately following in the fellowship hall. The family will have a private burial service. The family would like to thank his caregivers who attended him during the final weeks of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Rob’s name to Trinity Episcopal Church Mobile and St. Paul's Episcopal Chapel, Magnolia Springs.
