Edward Everett Peters, a native of Mobile, died at the age of 96 at his home in Fairhope, Alabama on January 1, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents George B. and Julia C. Peters, his sister Una Peters Wallingford, and his infant daughter Margaret Mary Peters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Margaret Gale Peters; his children George S. Peters (Kathleen) of Owensboro, Ky., Christopher E. Peters (Lisa) of Foley, AL, and Frances Gale Zieman (Michael) of Biloxi, MS; his ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Peters was a 1940 graduate of McGill Institute. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was selected for flight training. He received his wings and his officer’s commission in 1944 and served his country as a Navy fighter pilot during World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge he returned to Mobile and worked for Brookley Air Force Base and later the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Mobile, where he served as Chief of Manpower until his retirement in 1980. He was a devoted member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope and an avid hunter and fisherman, but his greatest joy was his pride in his children, his grandchildren and their families.
Visitation will take place on Saturday Jan. 6th at noon at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile.
