Edwina Daugherty McCormick, 80, died at her home in Roswell, Georgia on Wednesday. Born on December 11, 1934, to the late Claude Coleman and Lucy Davis Daugherty in Mobile, Alabama, Edwina graduated with the Murphy High School Class of 1952. While at Murphy she met her future husband, the late William Noel (Bill) McCormick, whom she married on November 7, 1953 at Dauphin Way Baptist Church. Edwina and Bill began their 61-year journey together with a brief stay in Charleston, South Carolina, moving from there to Auburn, Alabama and Pascagoula, Mississippi before returning to Mobile in 1961. Subsequent family moves included Northern Virginia; Huntsville, Alabama; Tirrenia, Italy; and Atlanta, Georgia -- Bill and Edwina's home since 1986. While the years brought many changes to the McCormick family, Edwina's unyielding dedication to that family proved constant. Variously known as Edwina, Wina, Ed, Mom, Aunt Wina, Gram or Grammy, she was a woman of grace, strength and quiet determination. As she is reunited with her beloved Bill, she leaves behind an extraordinary life's work and enduring legacy; a family made in her image: strong, resilient and loving. A family that is thankful that she was theirs to cherish. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her… Mrs. McCormick is survived by her daughters: Gail McCormick Casurella and her husband Jeffrey, and Patricia McCormick King and her husband Edwin; son: William "Noel" McCormick, III and his wife Melissa; grandchildren: Coleman David McCormick and his wife Colette, Zachary Harrison McCormick, Nathaniel Herndon McCormick and his wife Donna, Grayson Noel McCormick and his wife Holly, Jessica King Mann and her husband Benjamin, Sarah Michelle Reid and her husband Robert, and Andrew Jeffrey Casurella; great-grandchildren: Dahlia Mae McCormick, Abram Nathaniel McCormick, William Douglas McCormick, and Jackson Benjamin Mann; sisters: Jean Daugherty Williams and Patricia Daugherty Jackson and her husband Don. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 7, at Pine Crest Funeral Home and Cemeteries, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL. A brief service will be held at 2:00, followed immediately by interment on the grounds of Pine Crest.
