

Elaine Hastings Ivey – A native of Monroeville, AL and a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010, surrounded by her family and friends. Elaine was a graduate of Vanderbilt University where she was a cheerleader. She was a charter member of Cypress Shores Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer for over 38 years. Elaine loved her church and loved her Lord. Her faithful dedication to Him was displayed in every aspect of her life. She was the founder of the church’s Red Hat Society, the Ladies Christmas Tea, and the church library. Elaine was the secretary at Theodore High School for many years. An advocate for cancer research, Elaine founded the Relay for Life in South Mobile County and volunteered at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital. She was instrumental in the development of Boykin Park in Theodore and wrote the column “Elaine’s Echos” for the Press-Register’s Points South. A loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many, she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Hastings; her daughter, Patty Hastings Barnett; her parents, Rev. Hyram Huff and Mattie Dee Faircloth Huff; two sisters and one brother. Survivors include her husband, William R. Ivey; her son, Steven Dallas Hastings and daughter-in-law, Michelle Hastings; two granddaughters, Haley Hastings and Hannah Hastings; other relatives; her church family at Cypress Shores Baptist; and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held from Cypress Shores Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 23, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cypress Shores Baptist Church. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cypress Shores Baptist Church, 4327 Higgins Rd., Mobile, AL 36619.
