

Elizabeth Mary Turner Ladd, born on September 15, 1923, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015. Polly was a resident of Mobile for most of her life. A graduate of Murphy High School, she continued her education at Stevens College in Columbia, Missouri. She was active for many years as a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she contributed her time and talents in joyful communion with her church family. She served as joint Co-Chairman and was a driving force in the formation of Julius T. Wright School for Girls. She was affectionately known as “Granny” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Noel Monroe Turner and Lydia Elizabeth Touart Turner, her husband John Milton Ladd, son, Noel Fleetwood Ladd, daughter Noel Elizabeth Ladd Davis and her grandson James Edwin Davis, III. She is survived by her brother, John Walton Turner (Patsy), her sons, James Milton Ladd (Sandra) and Pelham Fleetwood Ladd (Sharon); six grandsons, John Judson Freeman (Elizabeth), Joseph Ladd Davis (Danielle), Noel Radcliff Davis (Allison), James Milton Ladd, Jr., Pelham Fleetwood Ladd, Jr. (Shannon) and Berrier Radcliff Ladd; four granddaughters, Haley Elizabeth Ladd, Lydia Radcliff Ladd Chandler, Devere Wolverton Ladd Garner (Denny) and Ashlye Jane Davis Hix (Ray), four great-grandsons, Thomas Chay Chandler, Jr., Oscar Andrew Cole, Rayford Reed Garner, and Ray Ward Hix, Jr., eight great-granddaughters, Lydia Elizabeth Chandler, Mary Lillian Chandler, Sarah Elizabeth Freeman, Noel Phalen Freeman, Mary Anne Freeman, Win Davis Hix, Monroe Camille Ladd and Linen Valera Ladd, many nieces and nephews, her Touart and Turner cousins and her devoted best friend, Ruby Powe Lawhorn (Rev. Tommie). Graveside services will be held at Old Springhill Cemetery on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial celebration of life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be John Judson Freeman, Pelham Fleetwood Ladd, Jr., James Milton Ladd, Jr., Joseph Ladd Davis, Noel Radcliff Davis, Berrier Radcliff Ladd, John Walton Turner, Jr. and Monroe McLeod Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Denny Ashton Garner, Raymond Ward Hix, John Russell Turner, Robert Marshall Turner, James McGregor Turner, Tyler Turner Boulo and Shane Balhatchet. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or Wilmer Hall.
