Mary Elizabeth Faulkenberry Morgan, longtime member of the Mobile community, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2020. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Berkley Morgan, her mother, Leila Mae English Faulkenberry, father, Claude Nettles Faulkenberry, sisters, Julia Margaret Jernigan (Fletcher) and Annie Myrtle Dees (Cleveland), and brothers, Claude Elwell Faulkenberry (Marietta) and Hillry Eugene Faulkenberry. Liz is survived by her daughters, Pamela M. Adams (Johnnie) and Jill M. Griffin (Ken), as well as her six grandchildren, Berkley G. Hillis (Brandon), Tinsley G. Hill (Joshua), Abigail G. Wood (Zachary), John K. Griffin, Franklin M. Griffin, and Charles N. Griffin. She is also survived by one sister in law, Mrs. Hillry Faulkenberry, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Born December 1, 1927 in Tunnel Springs, AL, Elizabeth grew up during the Great Depression and learned the value of community. Her brothers and future husband served in World War II while she worked toward her education and supported the troops from the Homefront. After Liz graduated from Beatrice High School, she moved to Montgomery where she attended business school and worked at the state capitol. There she met the love of her life, Charles. They were married for 43 years. After moving to Mobile, Elizabeth worked at Brookley Field, volunteered with her church, the PTA, and helped organize the memorable annual Fonde Follies. In 1970, Elizabeth passed her State Boards and began her career in real estate. Soon after, she joined the Order of Athena Mardi Gras Association where she loved to parade. She was known for making friends with anyone and was a counselor to all; people always opened up to her. After retirement, Liz moved to Fowl River with Johnnie and Pam where she enjoyed community involvement with the Women’s Club, Garden Club, FRACA, and hosted her Domino Divas. She was known on social media as the queen of Nick’s Chicks and was an avid fisherwoman and birdwatcher. Liz loved to study God’s Word and cherished her time with Bible Study Fellowship. She shared her faith and love for Jesus with everyone – she would stop and pray with anyone at the drop of a hat. She was a fearless leader to her daughters, sons in law, and grandchildren, who all loved her dearly. Gaga made the best chocolate pan cake in the world. The family wishes to say a very special thank you and send love to Mrs. Millicent Harper, Mrs. Cindy Hightower, Mrs. Mary Tillman, the Divas, and Alabama Hospice for their constant love and support; it is much appreciated. They would also like to express gratitude to Gaga’s dear friends, near and far. She will be missed. A private burial will be held on June 23; a celebration of life is planned for a later date.
