Born on January 1, 1957, in Mobile, Alabama, Libby was the daughter of the late Dr. Joseph W. Blount and Elizabeth B. Blount. She spent her formative years in Deer Park, Alabama and in her hometown. She graduated from John Shaw High School. Driven by a passion for science and service, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of South Alabama.
Libby was a devoted member of Kingswood United Methodist Church where her faith and compassion were evident in all she did. She taught Sunday School and dedicated many years to working in the church’s food pantry, offering support and kindness to those in need.
She is survived by her loving husband Richard H. Sawyer, M.D., her children, Harrison R. Sawyer and Bailey E. Sawyer and her sisters, Hazel B. Dyess and Elsa B. Reeves. Libby also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will remember her with affection.
Libby’s life was one of quiet strength and enduring commitment to her family, her faith, community and the values she held dear. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 5200 Perin Road, Mobile, AL 36693 beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
