Elizabeth Gensert “Betty” Towey, age 95, resident of Mobile, AL, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Mrs. Towey is preceded in death by her husband, James William Towey and parents, Walter and Maud Gensert. Betty was a graduate of Murphy High School and Huntingdon College. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. She taught speech and English at Murphy High School and Sidney Phillips Junior High. She was a member of the Modern Study Club, was once active in various local theater companies and other organizations. Mrs. Towey is survived by nine nieces and nephews; Kathy Towey Summers, Laura Towey Pritchett, Mary Towey Thomason, John Bolling Towey, Jr., James Vincent Towey, Matthew Duffy Towey, Thomas Edward Towey, Jr., Sheila Towey Gray and Sarah Brendan Towey. The family would like to express their appreciation to Murray House, Covenant Care Hospice and many friends for the loving care they provided their aunt. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Mobile from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway.
