Having an early interest in medicine, she dreamed of becoming a medical doctor; however, that avenue did not become available to her. After completing high school in Hoisington, she was encouraged to pursue the field of chiropractic medicine and enrolled in Colvin Chiropractic College in Wichita, KS. It was there she met another student, Otis Davis. Upon receiving their degrees, they married, acquired a small trailer and set about travelling throughout the United States holding health workshops and selling vitamins. In 1941, they arrived in Mobile, liked the city and opened a chiropractic practice, working side by side until Otis became ill. Ema closed the practice to take care of him. After his death in the mid fifties, she reopened the practice. Having become one of the first female chiropractors in the state, she had a successful career, finally retiring in 1983, at the age of 75. She has been a member of the Alabama State Chiropractic Association, National Chiropractic Association and was a charter member of the American Chiropractic Association. In her retirement years, she had an active, well rounded life. She loved travelling and took part in numerous trips with the Riase Club of Saint Pius X Catholic Church, Saint Mark United Methodist Seniors and Al’s Travel Club. She enjoyed Mardi Gras and was active in several mystic societies. She loved fishing and could spend many hours on the banks of rivers and lakes with her fishing pole. Ema was an insatiable reader and maintained a lifelong interest in medicine, pharmacology, practicing a healthy life style and encouraging others to do the same. She is the last o Abraham and Lydia’s children, being preceded in death by her brother, Marcus Boger, and his wife, Edna of Great Bend, KS; her brother, Lucas Boger; and her sister, Emily Stafford; her daughter, Marilyn Schoenbrun, and her nephew, Alan Boger.
